Amsterdam Airport Duty Free
Tax-free purchases and VAT
You may still purchase products at Schiphol at tax-free prices. That means that you still have a price advantage at Schiphol compared to other locations in the Netherlands, no matter where you’re flying.
– Purchasing at the price applicable to flights outside the European Union, irrespective of your destination. This excludes liquor and tobacco, on which you are required to pay taxes and duty. That means paying the normal retail prices for these products.
The European Union
The following countries are members of the European Union: Belgium, Bulgaria, Denmark, Germany, Finland, France, Greece, Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Austria, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Cyprus (Greek part), Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Romania, Slovenia, Slovakia and the Czech Republic. An exception has been made for the Channel Islands and Canary Islands. When flying to these destinations you may purchase liquor and tobacco at tax-free prices.
Outside the European Union
Are you flying within the European Union and continuing on to a non-European country upon arrival? In that case you do not have to pay tax or duty, and this includes liquor and tobacco. Please state this at the cash desk.
Are you returning to the Netherlands from a country outside the European Union? In that case you should always observe the rules that apply to importing goods from non-European countries, on a limited tax-free basis. You should therefore take account of the import regulations of the destination country, and that also includes when returning to the Netherlands. The Customs at Schiphol will be able to help you.
All those residing outside the European Union can reclaim VAT on all purchases in the Netherlands. Specific conditions apply. Please contact Customs at Schiphol directly, telephone no. +31 (0)20-3164700 or Global Blue, telephone no. +31 (0)23-5241909.
